AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC TO MECHANICAL ENGINEER?

Hey, I’m twenty years aged as well as have a 2 year diploma in Automotive technician. I’ve been operative during Ford dealership as a neophyte for about 7 months as well as im ill of it. Im ill of removing smallest wage, cleaning floors, becoming different garbages as well as all which bull**** work. we know everybody has to go by it in sequence to turn a automechanic though i do not know, this isn’t what i suspicion it would be. To be honest, i feel similar to receiving automatic engineering, it sounds so most fun, though im not sure, i meant i will be unequivocally unhappy if i take a 2-3 year march during college as well as afterwards a) do not find a pursuit b) dont similar to which job, as well as afterwards come behind to turn a mechanic, i meant afterwards i will have squandered 3 years. Im so confused, i feel similar to i squandered 3 years of my hold up as well as behind to a same feeling i had when i was about to connoisseur from tall school. What have been your thought…

Go for it, there is no such thing as too much education. Being a mechanical engineer is a good field, depending on what line you follow, and keeping up with the automotive field is also good with the right dealership.

First of all… the become a real mechanical engineer, you will need to take 4 years at an ABET accredited university. 2-3 years won’t cut it.

Second. Do you like math? if not, forget mechanical engineering.

Finally, whether you would like mechanical engineering as a career would depend greatly on the type of job and field you end up in. There are plenty of grunt-work engineering jobs. The “fun” jobs (at the leading-edge of technology) will require some effort to find.

As you call it, waste three years now or all the years for the remainder of your life. Your choice. If you have the drive and the brains you can do whatever you want. You will earn what you get. There are no free passes. I was your age, same circumstances, no money, went to community college for two years, senior college for two, graduated, got job and made a few million. And, I was looked upon as a dumb a**. It is all up to you, no one else.

It sounds like you need a better job, first off. You should be working on cars, not cleaning floors. There are other avenues open to someone who can do mechanic work, and if you find an industrial opening, you might find it far more satisfying.

As for school, you have to assume that you will be starting from the very beginning, freshman English and all. Most vocational school course credits do not transfer to a four-year college, and you’re best off not trying to do it. But this is okay: they’re valuable courses, and the liberal arts that you’ll have to take are never a waste of time. You’ll be taking math and physics courses, and these are quite difficult, but again it’s worthwhile.

Since you have a valuable skill, you’re in a very good position to pay for your education as you progress. I ran a stereo repair shop while I was going to engineering school, and it was quite satisfying living in those separate worlds. (Just don’t work on professors’ cars: it gets awkward.)

And when you’re done? You may or may not like the world of a desk-bound engineer, but you’ll have the education and a world of opportunity before you. Most engineers can’t turn a bolt these days.

Oh: make sure that you go to a real engineering school. Four year degree, ABET accreditation. And preferably not “engineering technology.”

But the time won’t be wasted. You’ll find it a great deal of fun.
