the contract is the contract….you can’t bring a lawyer to the recruiters office to change the contract…..
the us navy has a two year active/two year reserve/and four more years of inactive reserve….and really after the first 4 years, it is back to civie life
That’s for that question… I needed a laugh. Silly civilians.
The last 4 years of your contract is called “inactive reserves” and you’re basically used as a backup If WW3 were to start. Other than that you’re out of the military after your active time is up.
when you sign the contract it specifies how much of that time is active..
in addition they can stop gap you.. like they did to a lot of people in iraq and afganistan.. this means they can involuntarilay extend your active duty time.. till it’s convienient for the government to let you go
so if the contract you sign is 4 active 4 reserves.. the reserve time is inactive.. u dont show up or anything.. but could be recalled (not likely)
all you’ll serve is 4 years. then u can grow your hair long again and not shave.. no more uniforms etc..
Sorry, that’s the way it is. You do realize, I hope,. that if you serve 4 years, you still owe 4 years in the Inactive reserves. This means about all you have to do is heep them posted with your current address.
Short of the Chinese Army marching over the north pole or your having a critical MOS, it is unlikely you will have any more duty after your 4 years active service. .
You can do 4 years active if that’s all you want but you have to sign the 8 year contract or you can NOT join.
At anytime the Army CAN call you back within that 4 year window between when you get out (It’s called ETSing) and when your contract really ends.
not really. all contracts are for eight years total as many as six must be on active duty. the remainder can be spent in IRR but at ANY time you can be recalled to AD during that time.
also you can be stop lossed as well and not pemritted to leave at the end of your 4 years.
