With most high end makes to be a technician you have to get certified with a school and then get accepted into the company’s specific training program. I’m not sure about Jaguar, but I have talked to people who went through the BMW training and work at BMW dealerships and they said they get the same pay as lower end car companies. Pay is typically flat rate so it depends how hard/fast you work on how much you get paid.

Jaguar usually picks up excellent technicians. My employer graduated from UTI at the top of his class, was ASE certified in all areas, and had a long career of automotive shop work behind him when he was hired at the Jaguar dealer in Newport, California. He was sent to Jaguar factory school as the new models came out on the dealership’s dime, so don’t worry about training.

Familiarity with European cars is good. Jaguars are completely different from domestic cars–believe me, it was a hard transition. Other than that, they’re just like any other car.

I’d recommend attending a well-known technician’s college such as the Universal Technical Institute. Certifications are a big plus, but they don’t guarantee you’ll be able to work at any dealership. Most auto techs make $12 to $20/hour to start depending on their skill level and experience.
