    four years of steady work as a mechanic(letter from Your employer or income tax).plus the test.

    I forgot to say …You have to register and pay for the test.

    its going to take a while, do you have any eperience in the field, if you do or dont.. are u able to use tools well?

    another thing is if your looking to get all 8 certs and become a master tech then u can take a long time.. but if u want to target your interest.. brakes, transmission, whatever.. then just start there to make sure your ready for the long haul of being a automotive tech

    you can go to a trade school and certification is usually included in the cost of the course. how are you in it right now? can you do more than change the oil, do a tune up, do the brakes, accessory belt, etc?

    it’s up to you how long it takes, basically. you could pay for and register for the ASE right now if you felt comfortable with taking it. they also sell books on what the test is looking for at most book stores, where the rest of the test prep stuff is, around here.
