WHAT WOULD BE AN AVERAGE PRICE A MECHANIC WOULD CHARGE TO CHECK OUT A VEHICLE?

I am seeking for a used car as well as we will wish to have it checked out by a automechanic prior to we buy it.
Does any one know how most a normal automechanic charges to do something similar to this as well as what do they check for?

the shop where i work…usually does that for free if you tell the owner what its for….

he likes the nice guy discount…it also give the customer a good feeling about coming back with the car for services.

check the yellow pages. some have fixed rates and go to the car-average is about 100-150 depending on hourly rate.best is independant that goes to car. they check everything

I had my car checked over by a local and private owned mechanic. He checked all the belts, the brakes/pads, and looked for any fluid leaks and everything there was possible, he even took it out for a quick highway test and only charged me $75. I hope you get a mechanic as good as mine. I haven’t taken my car to anyone else.

I can tell you that i am a mechanic and we charge by the hour for checking out a car. a standard car check takes about a 1/2 and hour which is 35 buks. if the cusomers want to get more thorough we pull wheels and really get into it it goes up to an hour check ad that is 70. for the most part if your mechanic is good he should be able to do a pretty good check in half an hour.

Well being a female it’s hard sometimes to get a mechanic to give you a fair price. I’m from Texas and we have Auto Zone. I’m pretty sure they are nationwide. You can go there and they can test the basics, like the battery, starter, and it was a few other things they check (I can’t remember what else they check) FOR FREE. If you have any male friends that are into cars, have them look at it too. You can also go to those rinky dink shops that don’t look like they get any business b/c they are usually really cheap. As a last resort, Pep Boys ..I’m not sure how much they will charge where you live, but here, they do a computer diagnostic and it’s about $80. Midas is about $60-70.

Some shops will do a fast look for free .. (anything that’s obvious) but usually it’s a hour check out fee (currently where I work it’s $75/hour) as we pull the wheels off, check the brakes etc… Usually you have to pay for a great inspection.

Should run in the neighborhood of $50, and they would look for obvious signs of wear or damage, Put it on the rack and check for frame problems, check drive shafts, look at brake linings, battery and alternator. Uneven wear on the tires, bearings, ball joints, that type of thing.

Firestone will do a comlete vehicle inspection for 17.99 check brakes , tires , belts, coolant, shocks, struts, all suspension, fluids , battery pretty much everything except the internal engine or check engine light if it is on. and give you a printed estimate on what it would take to fix it. and give you a nationwide warranty on all repairs.
