The firefighting training in boot camp is basic familiarization. It lasts about a week, and is nowhere near the depth you need to be a firefighter. As far as the AME is concerned, get familiar with the USMAP system. Google that phrase: you’ll find it in the first few responses.

damage controlman is not the same as civilian firefighter. to be qualified as a firefighter 1 you need to pass a FF1 academy which is certified under the USFA. there is a DOD FF1 course in texas but it does not meet the USFA guidelines…however the USFA guidelines meet the DOD guidelines so ifyour a civilian FF you can transfer to a DOD firefighter.

Unless you go in the Reserves, there is no way after finishing Boot Camp you will be stationed in Florida and able to get your civilian certification. You are going to be stationed where you are needed and have to put the Navy first, especially undergoing qualifications when you first report to the command.

Damage Controlman are a specific Rating in the Navy, you are going in as a AME not the same thing. You will learn the basic firefighting skills in Boot Camp but nothing more than that. You are going to be a Aviation Structural Mechanic, meaning you fix things like hoses, the seat, etc…on the plane.

For getting a state certification it will depend on where you are stationed and what the state requires, usually just training from the military will not work, you will need more than that.
